Spanish 1
Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30pm
6 classes
$185.00

Even though our Spanish 1 class starts at the beginning, students will find themselves speaking Spanish from the very first moments of class!  Many of our Spanish 1 students have never studied the language before, and some have had limited exposure in high school, college, through community education or travel.  New students quickly gain the confidence to put what they're learning from week to week into use.  Students who have had some Spanish in the past report being very satisfied with the experience of our Spanish 1 class; they find themselves learning quickly and they're much less inhibited to speak the language!
Our beginning Spanish classes (Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Spanish 3, Spanish 4) are offered throughout the year.  Each class is 6-weeks.

Our Spanish 1-4 classes are a basic, although thorough, introduction to the Spanish language.  Our goal is to build a strong base knowledge of the Spanish language and to give students the tools they need to continually increase their proficiency.  Students will be introduced to the present tense including regular -ar/-er/-ir verbs, stem-changing verbs, and reflexive verbs, all presented around a variety of vocabulary themes including family & home, everyday activities, numbers & colors, foods, city & travel, the calendar & weather.  All instruction during class is in the target language, giving students an immersion experience each week.  Cooperative learning activities provide a fun and supportive atmosphere in which to practice new skills.  Time in class is focused around interaction with the instructor and between the students.

Two texts are integrated into the weekly at-home time spent experiencing the language.  Grammar explanation, written exercises and a picture dictionary help expand students' abilities and vocabulary.  Materials used in Spanish 1 continue through our Intermediate Spanish classes so there are no new textbooks that students need to purchase when continuing on to the next level.

By the end of Spanish 1, most students will have been exposed to the basic building blocks to begin speaking basic Spanish in guided conversation in the present tense, and around a variety of topics. Students will generally be in the Novice-mid to Novice-High level as described by ACTFL (The American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages).

New students considering our Spanish 1 class who are unsure of their proficiency and/or basic skills in Spanish may contact Tom at 651.388.8743 to set up an appointment to have a short proficiency evaluation. Any student who enrolls for Spanish 1 and finds that it is well within their skills may finish out the session in a Spanish 2 or higher class if available.  Inspired Learning Studio will make every attempt to make your language learning experience successful and rewarding for you.
